Plan of the 7th green

The 7th - High Hole Out, 359 yards

A dog-leg right with trouble to the right and the large "Cockle Bunker" guarding the plateau green which is shared with the 11th hole.

This is the only dog leg on the course. Drive straight down the middle to the side of the large hummock. The grass in the landing zone is usually kept at a friendly length. The green is guarded by the Shell bunker (3) but it is fifty yards short of the usual pin positions. The ground, clad in light rough, rises behind the green, which has a variety of draws but none harsh enough to deter the second from being played at the flag.

By the standards of the Old Course most of this fairway is relatively new, having been solid gorse at the beginning of this century forcing the play onto what is now the 12th fairway and bringing "Stroke" "Hill" and "Strath" more into play.

Big John says....

The ideal line is straight for the red flag on the 11th green again you don't want to be short with your second you want to be past the flag and ideally on the left. This will again leave you with an uphill putt. When you reach the marker stone at half way watch out for people on the right who are playing across the fairway (this is a dangerous hole)!
