Plan of the 2nd green

The 2nd - The Dyke, 411 yards

Trouble awaits errant tee shots. Heavy rough lines both sides of a narrow fairway and four bunkers come into play. Many players will play their second shots well right of the hole to avoid the deep pot bunker in front of the green.

The drive is blind from the medal tee but the right of the fairway holds the threat in the form of bunkers around 210 yards and savage gorse. From the tee Cheape's bunker may just be glimpsed in front of a small mound level with the Black Sheds. Drive to the right of Cheape's then take a long iron or wood to the green. The position of the pin in relation to the pronounced transverse ridge dictates tactics. Be sure to be on the same side as the pin. The rough through the green can usually be risked.

The faint linear depressions running diagonally across the fairway mark the course of the tracks running from the sea ford of the Swilken burn to the Cartgate leading to the fields.

Big John says....

Although the safe line is to the left you will gain a lot by going over the bushes to the right. Leaving a much easier second shot. You are also better off finishing to the right of the pin leaving you an uphill putt.
