Plan of the 12th green

The 12th - Heathery In, 316 yards

Six well-hidden bunkers lie in the fairway, invisible from the tee. Safely on the fairway, all that is needed is a short pitch to a narrow green.

The centre of the fairway is the home for a family of rather unpleasant bunkers (2) only one of which at 208 yards is visible. The heroic solution is to carry them (215 yards), but, failing that, drive to the right if the pin is on the left, and to the left if the pin is on the right. The rough on the left is usually kept decently short so that a long drive is not too heavily punished. The green which is guarded by a grade 2 bunker fifteen yards short of its edge, is very shallow and the position of the pin in relationship to the pronounced lateral ridge can create formidable problems in putting if your second is not placed intelligently.

We are now coming onto the oldest part of the course. The widening of the fairway over the years has always been to the seaward leaving the landward boundary much the same. You will notice that the right of the fairway inward is less tortured than the left.

Big John says....

To avoid the bunkers off the tee you must be to the right aiming over the small bush. It is advisable to try a running shot with your second as the ball will not stop on the narrow green. You can drive this green in the right conditions if you go down the left skirting the right edge of the gorse bushes.
