River Cup Tour of Ireland: Portmarnock
Portmarnock is minutes from downtown Dublin. Before the
round, some on the tour took a quick side-trip to Dublin for shopping and lunch.

More city center musicians.

Practice putting green at Portmarnock.

Teeta Donlan walking off putting green, ready to tee off.

Wind was way up at Portmarnock. Notice all the rigging on the mast to keep it upright in high winds.

Club Seal outside the club entrance.

Doug Bryant on the first tee.

Paul Sinclair does his Pillsbury Dough Boy impression as high winds puff up his jacket and pants on the first tee.

Bent flagstick is yet another indication of the high winds on the windswept peninsula at Portmarnock.

Doug Bryant pulls his trolley down the 6th fairway with Brad Smallwood and Bonnie Messer at left.

Marty Donlan gets ready to extricate ball from trap.

Tom McCandlish getting ready to hit approach shot to par-5 6th hole as Jeff Hull, Keith Dull (fixing divot mark), Mark Deblois, and Gigi "Half-Pint" Deblois wait.

Wes Morck and Jim Nelson take the left road; Marty Donlan chooses the right.

Paul Sinclair and Wes Morck decided to have a sand-shot contest.

Paul gets his ball safely out and a face full of sand to boot.

Par-3 12th hole.

Jim Nelson takes aim at the par-4 14th hole. Aim is directly at Ireland's Eye, the island peak seen just right of center of the horizon.

Tom McCandlish putting out on 13. His drive was 30 yards from the hole, but the tricky putting green is the challenge here - as his 3-putt attests.

From the tee on par-3 15th hole. Ocean is right next to the berm on the right side of the hole. If the wind is blowing right to left, you hit out over the ocean and hope the wind blows it back in play.

Keith Dull putting out on 18.

Early finishers at 18. It's about 9:30 pm Ireland time in this picture. Last group finished around 9:45 pm with plenty of light to spare.

Mark Deblois putting out on 18.

Tom McCandlish missed this putt. Even more distressingly, he missed the next one as well. Retief Goosen had nothing on Tom this day.
