Scott Warren and Chris Young Inducted
to River Cup Hall of Fame

10/23/99: In a video announcement that brought tears to the eyes of several viewers, Willow Oaks Player Scott Warren was inducted last night to the River Cup Hall of Fame. The announcement was made by Will "Brother" Scott.Scott Warren Scott seemed the perfect presenter for Warren's induction as he has lost more matches to Warren than anyone in River Cup history.

Despite the many beatings Warren has put on Scott, Scott was gracious in announcing Warren's selection for the Hall of Fame. "This man is a great golfer and a great gentleman. Apparently I'm the only one who knows anything about him or I guess he would have been inducted earlier," said Scott. Hall of Fame Chairman J. Langdon Moss was with Scott during the announcement and noted that Warren was one of the four Willow Oaks players who played in the first River Cup in the modern era. Warren has participated in every River Cup since and stands 6th on the all-time points list for Willow Oaks players. He holds the record low-round in River Cup action with a 72 that has not been bested since he posted the mark in 1995. The score was disputed at the time but was ultimately upheld after a several month investigation. The scorecard from that round is on display in the River Cup Museum adjacent to the Hall of Fame.

Warren was overwhelmed by the honor. "I don't really know what to say. I've thought this could happen, but never let myself believe it would. There are just so many River Cuppers to choose from and to think they bestowed this great honor on me is overwhelming," Warren blubbered in a choked voice.

River Cup Commissioner Paul Sinclair announced the selection of CCV's Chris Young for the Hall of Fame. "Chris has brought a lot of frivolity to the River Cup, alot of bad dental work to the Hall of Fame, and I'm proud to be able to announce his selection," said Sinclair. The reference to "bad dental work" escaped many in the throng of onlookers as the announcement was made and will apparently continue to escape them as no explanation was forthcoming. Click for larger versionYoung is also noted as the only male River Cup participant on the River Cup Tour of Scotland to take a full monty plunge in Loch Ness. Laura Lee Chandler is the only female River Cupper to take the full monty dip in search of Nessie but pictures of Ms. Chandler's escapade are unavailable, to the chagrin of the other members of the Scotland Tour.

Among his many accomplishments in River Cup play, Young is most noted for the record he set in the 1997 Monsoon River Cup for shortest drive. On the first tee, Young bounced his driver into the ground behind the ball and the divot advanced his drive roughly 3 inches. Short of a whiff, his "Shortest Drive" record should survive for many years into the next millenium. The only current River Cup player with any hope of matching the feat is felt to be John "Lucky" Leitch. Leitch held the previous record of 8 yards prior to Young's blast.

The River Cup Hall of Fame is located at 5001 Grove Avenue in a new wing of the dental office of Jeff Hudgins. Hudgins, a former River Cup MVP for CCV, is the official dentist to the River Cup and offers discounted dental treatment for River Cup Hall of Famers. Other benefits of membership include free parking, discounts in the souvenir shop, and free refills on coffee in the River Cup Cafe.
